Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog, I am an artist turned illustrator/author of childrens educational coloring books.Because I believe we live in the best country in the world, I want children to learn about our country in a way they will enjoy. I think all kids like to color (even in our electronic world). While doing research for the books I learned that many parents don't know a lot about our country themselves, Some said to me " I should get the books for myself ". So I decided to do this blog, featuring each state as I research and illustrate it for the books. It is a fun way for young and old to learn about different states. Check the Visit the U.S.A. page.

I get so much pleasure out of visiting with the children at school.
In this picture I am showing the kids where Alaska actually is, it is way up by our neighbor Canada. And the reason of course it is there is it once belonged to Russia before we bought it from them.

At this visit I took my friend Miss Dorothy with me .Miss Dorothy actually lives in Alaska and I thought it would be interesting for the students to be able to ask her questions about Alaska. Some of the questions were, do you have schools in Alaska ? What do the kids wear to school ? Have you ever seen a real Eskimo ?

I was invited by an art teacher to visit the children and talk to them about art.
I took Miss Christine and Miss Joan ( two of my artist friends) with me.
Miss Christine makes beautiful egg art, she carves and creates dioramas in all sizes of eggs. The children were every fascinated by seeing them .
Miss Joan had them do an exercise, she had them hold a pencil in the opposite hand than they normally use and close their eyes and draw certain things on their paper without looking while they drew. They were amazed that what they drew actually looked like what they were drawing.
I talked about believing in themselves and what ever it is that they want to do. I told them if they really believe and study and work hard at whatever it is that they want, I believe they can do it. I told them how I believed I could become an artist, and I worked very hard and sure enough here I am. We all took samples of our work for them to see.

This class was very intent on what I was telling them.
I go to the library and different classes come in and sit on the floor and listen to what I am telling them. Then they get ask questions, and before they leave I give each of them one of my coloring books and some crayons which were donated by a local business.
