I am in the process of creating a series of childrens educational coloring books, and have been ask WHY I am spending all my time creating coloring books for kids since the majority of them are so interested in electronics ?
I believe we have more "connection" via Facebook, Twitter and other social media than any time in history. BUT at the same time we as families, are more DIS-connected than any time in history.
I compare it to having more TV channels to watch and less quality programs to watch.
In this country we have allowed the "Media" to "teach" our children. And what they have learned is selfishness, immorality, greed and a feeling of "entitlement".
Now I am quick to say not all media is bad, but we really don't have good "role models" for our children on TV that teach them that it is wrong to lie, cheat and take things from others, even kill someone.
I think it's time we each individually start trying to reverse that trend. One way we can do that is spend some "quality time" with our kids. And if you don't have any children of your own then take one hour a month and volunteer to visit a school and read to a class.
My hope is that these educational coloring books will be used as a tool, perhaps by a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin or friend to spend a little time with the children, to visit with the child and at the same time teach them something useful.
Why did I choose U.S. Geography as my first subject ? At the time I started the books I was traveling all over the U.S. and I thought a coloring book about each state would be a good souvenir. I believe the more a person actually "knows" about our country, the more they will be PROUD of our country.
When I finish all 50 states I plan to do other subjects in color books.
